PetSafe ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box

What if there was a product that took over the duty of picking up after your cat? Let the PetSafe ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box do all the work for you.

If you’re like me, cleaning out the cat litter box is right up there with undergoing a major dental procedure or shoveling out your car after a major snowfall. No opt-outs, it has to be done. And if you have multiple felines in your household, this smelly chore becomes a daily must-do.

That is, until now. You see, the creative folks at PetSafe have developed a self-cleaning litter box that requires you only become involved in the clean-up process once every few weeks if you have a one or two cat household. Seriously!

The PetSafe ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box uses an automatic raking system that sweeps the litter box for any clumps (and more) every 20 minutes. Yes, automatically. So, you never have to worry about monitoring the litter situation or activating the clean-up process. And if kitty happens to be in the process of using her box, the safety sensor will prevent it from activating while she is “engaged” then will automatically reset the rake timer so it sweeps through again after 20 minutes. This means that nothing (ahem) languishes in the litter box.

While I love that it eliminates the chore of cleaning and the typical smell that accompanies kitty litter, I’m also a big fan of anything that prevents litter particles from being tracked through the entire house. Am I right?

In that regard, the PetSafe Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box uses a premium blue crystal litter that is 99% dust free and not only prevents tracking but also absorbs moisture, odors and starts dehydrating solid waste on contact. In fact, these crystals are 5 times more effective at reducing odor than traditional clay or clumping litters. And because it’s all raked into a lower, covered waste trap every 20 minutes, your pet will always have a clean, fresh bed of litter – which any feline owner will confirm is critical to ensuring your cat continues to use her litter box.

But while it may sound like a complicated system, its super-simple to set up. Firstly, the unit is designed for indoor use and comes with a UL-rated AC adapter and 10-foot cord so you can always find a convenient, discreet place to locate the box. And the cat you have purchased the unit for should be six months of age or older. Personally, I’m also a fan of being able to use the system with or without the privacy hood – a feature that has always tended to spook my cats and discourage use. However, if your felines are the type that prefer a little more seclusion, the hood is available as an optional feature.

So, how does it work? You simply fill the leak-proof disposable litter tray (included) with the crystal litter (also included) and load it into the main unit. Plug it in and you’re good to go. The auto-sensors will do the rest. You don’t even need to top it up with extra litter during the weeks it is in use. All you need to do is remove the disposable tray every few weeks, cover it with the lid and throw it out. Clean, quick and hygienic.

Best of all, PetSafe has made this self-cleaning cat litter box absolutely turn key so its ready for use the moment it arrives. Each system includes the litter box unit with a 10-foot long electrical cord, the metal rake, the waste trap lid, a leak-proof disposable litter tray plus cover as well as a bag of their premium blue crystal litter. If you’re looking for a little more direction in terms of set-up or use, PetSafe has also included a handy product manual to answer any questions you may have.
